Orphan Train,

A
dance drama in tribute to Rev. Charles Loring Brace, founder of the
NY Children’s Aid Society and father of the first placing out,
foster care movement, nicknamed the Orphan Trains. Carrying
orphaned, abandoned and neglected children from New York in search
of homes in Western towns and cities, the Orphan Trains ran from
1853 to 1929 affecting the lives of over 150,000 children.
Prodigal’s
Song, premiered in 1999

Music by Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Keith Hall
A ballet depicting the Bible parable known as the Prodigal Son, set
in a musical context. A Maestro has two, young female prodigys under
his care—a violinist and a cellist. The violinist rebels and after
suffering hard lessons, comes to her senses, returns to her Maestro
and finds forgiveness.
Nisei, premiered in 2001

Music by Keith Hall, Taki Rentaro, Johann Pachelbel
Nisei is a Japanese word for 2nd generation Japanese American. This
dance drama is a tribute to the Nisei Veterans of the 100th Infantry
Battalion and 442nd Regimental Combat Team who faced prejudice and
concentration camps in America during WWII, but fought in the war
and became the most highly decorated unit of its size and duration
in American Military history.
Fool’s
Gold, premiered in 2005

Music by Roy Harris, Frank Martin, Jean Francaix
An original, western “fairy tale” about a man ensnared by an evil
spirit called the “Siren.” The Siren and her cohorts thrive on the
lawlessness of the Wild West and feed on the greed of the gold rush.
Although the man breaks away from the Siren to find love and a new
life, the Siren returns to haunt the man bringing him to a final
showdown.

Fantastic Toys, premiered in 1996 & re-choreographed in 2005

Re-staging and new choreography by Brenda Neville, Mandy Chan &
Rebeccah Hope Brann
A comedic “fairy tale” ballet, roughly based on the Leonide Massine
ballet, “La Boutique Fantasque”, is set in a quaint village far away
in time and place. In the village is a special Toy Shoppe that is
owned by a woman skilled in making beautiful life-sized dolls that
are brought to life by the magical Silver Fairy. When the selfish
King and Queen take over the shoppe, the Silver Fairy and the dolls
save the day!
